Ilana Löwy is emeritus senior research fellow at the French National Institute on Health and Research - Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Medicale (INSERM), affiliated with the Cermes3 laboratory. A trained biologist, she transferred to the History of Science and Medicine where she explored the "Pasteurian sciences" – bacteriology, immunology, and virology – the intersection between biomedicine and gender studies, notably in the field of reproduction and treatment of female cancers. Her more recent work looked at the Polish School of Philosophy of medicine, in particular the work of pioneer scholar of social studies of sciences Ludwik Fleck. Her last book, "Viruses and Reproductive Injustice: Zika in Brazil" was published in 2024 by John Hopkins Press in English and by Editora Hucitec in Portuguese.
